The outdoor season is underway in collegiate athletics and Bahamian athletes showed up and showed out at their respective meets this past weekend.
Over at the 2025 Texas A&M University 44 Farms Team Invitational on the school’s campus in College Station, Texas, Nebraska junior Keyshawn Strachan is proving that he is all the way back from an elbow injury that hampered him much of the 2023 season and into 2024. He had just the second 80 meters (m) throw of his athletic career, matching that distance to win the men’s javelin competition. It was also the second farthest mark ever by an representing the University of Nebraska Huskers.
Strachan’s winning throw of 80m (262’ 5”) came on his fourth attempt, and it was a season’s best, meet record and facility record. He has a personal best national record of 84.27m (276’ 5”), done in 2023.

Dash Sirmon, another junior at Nebraska, finished second with a throw of 76.36m (250’ 6”), and Adam Dubois, a junior for the Texas Tech University Red Raiders, finished third with a throw of 72.03m (236’ 4”).
Both Lanaisha Lubin and Phebe Thompson will miss the CARIFTA Games in the women’s long jump as they were unable to come home for the Splice & Connect/Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) CARIFTA Trials due to collegiate commitments, but both were in action over the weekend.
Lubin, a freshman at the University at Albany SUNY, won the women’s long jump at the RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) Under the Lights Invite on the school’s campus in Troy, New York, with a leap of 5.60m (18’ 4-1/2”). Alice Brambati, a freshman for RPI, finished second with a leap of 5.56m (18’ 3”) and Marissa LeDuc, a junior for SUNY Plattsburgh, finished third with a leap of 5.34m (17’ 6-1/4”).
Thompson competed at the University of Central Missouri Mule Relays on the school’s campus in Warrensburg, Missouri, and finished second with a leap of 5.67m (18’ 7-1/4”). Thompson is a freshman for Central Missouri. Maeva Goune Tibbolo, a freshman for Iowa Central Community College, won with a massive leap of 5.99m (19’ 8”). Thompson was second and Marissa Austene, another freshman for Central Missouri, finished third with a leap of 5.65m (18’ 6-1/2”). Thompson also ran in the women’s 4x100m relay and helped her team finish third in 46.63 seconds.
Koi Adderley will compete in the women’s long jump at CARIFTA and got in some tune up work over the weekend by competing in that event at the Mines Kit Mayer Classic at Colorado Mines in Golden, Colorado. Adderley, a freshman for the University of Wyoming, finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.61m (18’ 5”). Adderley also competed in the women’s high jump and had a clearance of 1.65m (5’ 5”) to finish fourth. The top three finishers all cleared at least 1.70m (5’ 6-3/4”).
Back at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational, Antoine Andrews, a junior for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, finished third in the men’s 110m hurdles in a wind-aided 13.29 seconds. Jamar Marshall Jr., a senior for the University of Houston, won the gold in 13.13 seconds and Giovanni Wearing, a junior for the University of Wisconsin, finished second in 13.24 seconds. Andrews also competed in the 200m and was seventh in 20.74 seconds.
A trio of Bahamians were in action at the 120th Annual Indiana Little State Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana.
Lamarr Williams, a freshman for Bethel University, Indiana, finished seventh in the 100m in 10.74 seconds, was 11th overall in the 200m in 21.90 seconds and was a part of their 4x100m relay team which finished second in 42.04 seconds.
Jelani Morrison, a freshman for Indiana Tech University, finished fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.91m (6’ 3-1/4”). Tremayne Brown, a freshman for Vincennes University, won with a clearance of 2.10m (6’ 10”), Luke Robertson, a freshman for Marian University, Indianapolis, finished second with a clearance of 2.01m (6’ 7”) and Jaiden Dresselhaus, a sophomore for Marian, had the same height as Morrison but won the bronze based on number of knockdowns.
Reanno Todd, a freshman for Indiana Tech, competed in four events. He no-heighted in the high jump, was 26th overall in the men’s 110m hurdles in 20.85 seconds, 26th overall in the javelin with a throw of 35.18m (115’ 5”) and 37th overall in the shot put with a mark of 10.71m (35’ 1-1/2”).
A couple more Bahamians were in action at the Berry Field Day Invite 2025 at Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia.
Desmond Major, a junior for the Clayton State Lakers, finished sixth in the men’s long jump with a leap of 6.26m (20’ 6-1/2”), 39th overall in the 1500m in 4:27.10 and fouled on all three of his attempts in the shot put.
Dominic Archer, a junior for the Lakers, finished 37th overall in the 200m in 23.14 seconds and false started in the 100m.
There were also a couple of Bahamians in action at the Jo Meaker Classic and Multi Meet at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.
Amari Pratt, a sophomore for New Mexico Junior College, finished seventh in the 100m in 11.63 seconds and helped her team win the women’s 4x400m relay in 3:39.92.
Javano Bridgewater, a freshman for Colby Community College, finished 13th overall in the 400m in 48.43 seconds and helped his team finish fourth in the men’s 4x400m relay in 3:11.81.
A couple of Bahamians were also in action at the Arkansas Spring Invitational at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Oscar Smith, a senior for Louisiana Tech University, finished fourth in the men’s 110m hurdles in a wind-aided 13.67 seconds.
Cordell Tinch won in 13.22 seconds, Daylin Williams, a senior for Pittsburg State University, finished second in 13.63 seconds and his collegiate teammate Joel Nyatusah, a senior, was third in 13.64 seconds.
Shayann Demeritte, a freshman for Louisiana Tech, finished 24th overall in the women’s 100m in a wind-aided 11.98 seconds and 29th overall in the women’s 200m in a wind-aided 24.74 seconds.
