In a significant step toward Major League Baseball (MLB) aspirations, 17-year-old Bahamian infielder Dave Neely has signed with the Texas Rangers.

This signing is a notable achievement in Neely’s journey, reflecting years of dedication supported by his family and coaches.

Neely is part of the 2025 international signing class and the specifics of his signing bonus have not yet been disclosed. Neely, who was groomed for this moment by MaxD Sports Academy, did the signing at 1ER CRU on Gladstone Road on Wednesday.

When asked about his feelings regarding the signing, Neely expressed gratitude.

“I feel good, but I want to give thanks to God and Jesus Christ. He is the one who brought me here today, and I am excited for this new path. I thank God for my friends and family because if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be here today,” he said.

Neely also shared his outlook on joining the Rangers. He stated: “You can expect an exciting guy with a lot of energy, the positive kind, and I want to have fun.”

Nelson Cruz, a prominent figure within the Rangers organization, commented on the signing. “We are excited to have Neely join our organization. He is a very dynamic player with a great personality — the kind of player you like to see on the field every day. We are extremely excited and look forward to having him at our academy in the Dominican Republic soon.”

Cruz further elaborated on how the Rangers discovered Neely.

“It was a fun experience. We were in Miami covering another event when, out of the blue, the kid from The Bahamas popped up. He had a good event, and we liked what we saw, so we decided to invite him to the Dominican Republic. We believe in his talent and what he can do, and we are happy we signed him today.”

Neely’s journey reflects the growing opportunities for young athletes from The Bahamas in professional sports. His commitment to the game, coupled with support from his community, has paved the way for this important milestone.

As Neely transitions to this new chapter with the Rangers, he will join the club’s training program in the Dominican Republic and play for either the DSL Rangers Blue or the DSL Rangers Red in the Dominican Summer League (DSL). The DSL Rangers teams are minor league affiliates of the Texas Rangers. They are located in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (DR).

Neely is preparing for the challenges ahead. The organization’s investment in young talent like Neely signifies its commitment to building a strong future.

Neely’s signing with the Rangers marks a promising development in his baseball career, playing Rookie Baseball in the Dominican Republic. With a solid foundation of support and a drive to succeed, Neely is poised to make an impact. The Rangers look forward to nurturing his talent as he embarks on this exciting journey.
