
The 2024-2025 Government Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA) basketball season continues with exciting matchups on a daily basis at the D.W. Davis and C.I. Gibson gymnasiums.
Over at the D.W. Davis Gymnasium on Tuesday, the C.H. Reeves Raptors junior boys took on the A.F. Adderley Tigers in a tightly contested game. The Raptors scored a narrow 28-25 victory over the Tigers, with Devante Crawl leading the scoring for C.H. Reeves with 18 points.
After the game, Coach Thurman Johnson expressed gratitude. He said: “We thank the Lord for allowing our boys to play and win this game. We worked hard in practice last week and talked about how each game is important to make the playoffs. This win tonight is just a step closer. We have three more games to get us in the door.”
Johnson pointed out the need to improve on defense.
“Our defense was up and down. We went through some stuff, but the guys didn’t follow through, so that needs cleaning up,” he said.
In the junior girls division at the same venue, the Raptors dominated the Tigers with a decisive 29-7 victory. Tajhanique Morley was the standout player for the Raptors, scoring 20 points and leading her team to a commanding win.
Over at the C.I. Gibson Gymnasium on Tuesday, the junior girls game featured the H.O. Nash Lions and the Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves. H.O. Nash secured a significant victory with a score of 45-13. Jada Frazer was the top performer for H.O. Nash, scoring an impressive 33 points to guide her team to victory.
H.O. Nash also faced off against Anatol Rodgers in the junior boys division at C.I. Gibson. H.O. Nash emerged victorious with a 39-32 win. Treyvon Burrows led the scoring for H.O. Nash, contributing 20 points. For Anatol Rodgers, Nathaniel Farquharson scored 12 points and Renaldo Cunningham added 11 points, showcasing their efforts in the loss.
These games highlight the dedication and skill of young athletes in the GSSSA basketball league. As the season progresses, teams are focused on improving their performances and securing spots in the playoffs. The excitement continues to build as fans anticipate more matchups and standout performances from these promising young players.
