Algernon Cargill has been re-elected as the president of the Bahamas Aquatics Federation. He was elected unopposed.

The Bahamas Aquatics Federation, the body overseeing aquatic sports in the country, held its annual general meeting (AGM) and elections on Saturday January 11, and Algernon Cargill was reelected as president unopposed.

In his report, Cargill outlined the federation’s progress over the last four years, citing achievements in sponsorships obtained, international appointments made, event hosting, and athlete accomplishments.

Cargill’s leadership team comprises experienced vice presidents Lynne Fraino as first vice president, Christine Wallace-Whitfield as second vice president focusing on public relations, and Gena Culmer-Taylor as third vice president. Georgette Albury resumes her role as secretary, supported by Andrea Longley as assistant secretary. Erald Thompson is the treasurer, with Kendric Albury as the assistant treasurer.

All of the positions were unopposed. They are elected to serve for the next four years.

Courtney Barr, Carrie Saidi and Mark-Anthony Thompson join the executive board as members-at-large, each contributing unique skills and interests.

Cargill stated: “I am very happy to be reelected and thank the members of the federation for their trust. Our first order of business is to defend our CARIFTA title in Trinidad and Tobago. We are the only country to have won for six consecutive years and eight of the last nine years. We expect a tough competition but we are excited to compete and defend our title. Next will be the world championships in Singapore, where I expect Lamar Taylor to lead the delegation. Locally, our calendar includes regular club meets. We are partnering strongly with ‘Let’s Swim Bahamas’ to promote swimming. I thank Andy and Nancy Knowles for their work, and I am happy to lead the federation again.”

First Vice President Fraino, of Grand Bahama, expressed her gratitude, saying: “I am grateful to be reelected. This role allows me to represent Grand Bahama, home to many competitive swimmers, including Olympic athletes. I am committed to supporting our athletes and promoting swimming initiatives, especially for women and girls.”

Fraino continued: “Under President Cargill’s leadership and with a supportive board, Bahamas Aquatics is set for an exciting future. We aim for continued success at the CARIFTA level and international representation. Ensuring every Bahamian student learns to swim remains a priority, as water safety is crucial for our nation.”

The new executive board is poised to guide Bahamas Aquatics through what could be another challenging term, focusing on national and international achievements, athlete development, and promoting swimming across the islands.
