
Bahamian brothers Norman and Nash Cartwright, two young sailors, teamed up to compete at the Miami Snipe Invitational Regatta at Biscayne Bay, in Miami, Florida, this past weekend. The regatta is specifically designed for sailors under the age of 31. Out of 36 teams, the Cartwright brothers finished in 19th place, earning a total of 85 net points and 119 total points.
Norman Cartwright recently participated in the ILCA 6 Orange Bowl Regatta, where he achieved a commendable 20th place out of 97 competitors. Nash Cartwright made his debut in international ILCA competition by sailing in the ILCA 4 category in that same regatta.
The regatta this past weekend marked Nash’s first experience in the Snipe class. For Norman, this event served as his debut overseas competition at the helm in the Snipe class. Nash served as the crew member. The snipe sloop is sailed in 30 countries across four continents, with Japan, Brazil, Spain, the United States of America and Italy being the most prominent countries.
The Snipe class holds significant recognition in the sailing world. It is the designated double-handed boat for the Pan American Games. The class also stages world and continental championships, catering to various categories such as juniors, women and masters. There are also various national championships.
The Cartwright brothers’ entry into the Miami Snipe Invitational is noteworthy. Their performance in this event reflects their growing potential in the sailing community.
