Bahamian sharpshooting star in the National Basketball Association (NBA) Chavano ‘Buddy’ Hield could be on the move again.

Caleb Hightower of The Sporting News is reporting that Hield could be in a blockbuster three-team trade involving Miami Heat’s disgruntled star player Jimmy Butler.
On Thursday, Butler claimed he no longer wants to compete with the Heat, and was subsequently suspended for seven games for conduct deemed detrimental to the team’s success.
Hield has been traded four times in the eight and a half years he has played in the NBA, and remains valuable trade bait with his three-point shooting ability and instant offense that he could provide as a starter or off the bench. Hield has played primarily off the bench for the Golden State Warriors this season. He was a key cog in their success early in the season when the Warriors were going through injury woes.
For the season, the Bahamian is averaging 12.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from three-point range. Earlier this season, he scored his 10,000th point and buried his 2,000th three-point shot in the NBA.
With a chance to acquire Butler, it is being reported that the Warriors is aggressively pursuing the Heat’s unhappy superstar in an opportunity to mix him with superstar Stephen Curry and Draymond Green and to elevate their roster.
“The point is that Curry, who turns 37 in March, can still be the best player on a title contender, and the Warriors owe it to him to put a championship-caliber supporting cast around him,” said Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey on Friday. “Right now, they don’t have that, and while this deal wouldn’t guarantee it, it would certainly bring them closer.
“Butler’s defensive know-how and competitiveness would make him half of a nightmarish duo with Draymond Green on that end. His ball-handling and passing would free up Curry for a few more catch-and-shoot opportunities per game on the other. His slashing would pull defenses away from those Curry triples, too.”
In an intriguing trade proposal, the Warriors would receive Butler and Jalen Wilson; the Heat would receive Cameron Johnson, Hield, Jonathan Kuminga, Ziaire Williams and two future first-round picks; and the Brooklyn Nets would receive Andrew Wiggins, Gary Payton II, Pelle Larsson, and a top-10 protected 2030 first-round pick.
Butler averages 17.6 points on 55.2 percent field goal shooting and 37.5 percent three-point shooting with the Heat. The 35-year-old NBA veteran is in his 14th season in the league. He has led the Heat to two NBA Finals appearances, where they fell to the Los Angeles Lakers in the bubble in 2020 and to the Denver Nuggets in 2023.
This season, the Heat are off to an underwhelming 17-16 win/loss record – tied for fifth with the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference of the NBA – which might have contributed to Butler requesting the trade.
As for Hield, he is already playing for his fourth NBA franchise in the last four years. He was sent to the Warriors in a sign-and-trade deal with the Philadelphia 76ers over the summer. He was with the Sixers for less than half of a season.
Hield has hit 200-plus three-pointers in six straight seasons with a career three-point shooting percentage of 40 percent. He was selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans, and has played with the Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers and the Warriors in his professional career.
